Frederick Herman Wendrich

The Wendrich Family Geese

The following is a story Fredrick often told his family about living on the farm in Germany.

The Wendrich family raised geese and used the down (feathers) for the feder decken (down quilts).  There was some mash left over from making beer.  Anyway, they gave this mash to the flock of geese.  The next morning the geese were all dead, so they plucked the feathers from all the geese then threw them in a pile.  Later in the day, they heard this awful squawking and carrying on.  They looked out and the geese were flopping around; they had been dead drunk on the mash and passed out.  He laughed and laughed whenever he told that story.
