Inez Lucretia Parsons Ashcroft
INTRODUCTION
On the first day of January 1977, my mother, Inez Lucretia Parsons Ashcroft, made a resolution that she would write her personal history during that coming year. The bulk of this history is Lucretia’s own writing.. However, there are additional things that I would like to add, and in these cases, I will refer to Lucretia in the third person, or as Mother.
My mother lived a life of service. In her 80’s when she herself was sick and could barely hobble back and forth to the church she spent her days worrying about the widows in the ward -- making a pot of chicken soup (including handmade noodles), and delivering it on foot to someone she considered more needy than she was. She served in the Extraction Program, and before she would would go to visit one of her children she made sure that she had worked ahead to complete all the hours she would miss during her absence.
Mother truly followed the words of President Spencer W. Kimball who said, “My life is like my shoes--to be worn out in service.” Mother was faithful and true until the day she died. Her life is an example to all.
